Madam Goh’s husband was diagnosed with late stage cancer and was put into intensive care. A day in intensive care costs S$4000, excluding medicine and other procedures. The family has no insurance and a total combined monthly income of S$400. Selling their only house to finance the treatment is the only option. There is no certainty that the husband will survive and if he does, the road to recovery can take years.
The family expressed unwillingness to opt for treatment.
However, the hospital’s doctor, Dr Tan, decides to go ahead with the treatment anyway. He believes every life is precious and professionally a doctor should attempt to save a patient no matter how remote the chance of survival is.
Does ignoring the knowledge of the family’s financial situation make Dr Tan an immoral person?
.
my UT question.
i got stuck here.
i know that i'll do the same if im a doctor,
its just that i cant explain it in words.
shit, i just failed again, i suppose.
.
.
.
.
.
& yest i had my counselling class.
i learnt so many things about myself.
& i'll have to write a journal on what ive learnt yest.
this class really helped me alot in terms of self-awareness,
i learnt to understand myself and others better.
.
just to share.
.
- its about how you see about yourself, not how others see you.
- people dont care about how much you know till they know how much you care.
- the key to sucess & happiness is having high self esteem.
- dont try to change others, change yourself.
- think in the now. obviously the past & the future are part of the present but only part of it, not actually the present.
- indulge yourself. nurture yourself.
.
.
.
all of a sudden, i feel that i have grown up.
i think differently from in the past.
one thing that i thought over the whole night was -
dont try to change others, change yourself.
i'll always have this in my mind.
.
.
.
till then.
